Patrika Gate, often referred to as “the most colorful door in India”, has been built as a unique memorial showcasing the architectural and cultural heritage of all the regions of Rajasthan. This memorial is an attempt to integrate the art, craft, and cultural heritage of Rajasthan into one structure. The gate is built on the busiest Jawaharlal Nehru Marg of Jaipur and it is an attempt to bring together the art, craft, and cultural heritage of the state in one place.

Patrika Gate, as a monument, adds to the legacy of Patrika being embedded and unified with the cultural values of Rajasthan. It is being claimed like the walled city, the numeral nine plays a critical part in the making of the Patrika Gate. The nine-point Vastu principle has been given special attention while designing Patrika Gate. There is a total of nine pavilions. Each pavilion is 9 feet wide. The width of the gate is 81 feet and the height is 108 feet which coincide with the width of principal markets in the walled city. Some experts claim it to be 111 feet and not 108 feet.

Gates in Jaipur are an architectural tradition. When Maharajah Sawai Jai Singh II founded Jaipur in 1727, he built a wall around the city with eight gates in all four directions. Now centuries later, Patrika Gate continues the architectural legacy and is sometimes touted as the ninth gate of the city. The number nine does play a prominent role in the design — there are nine total pavilions, each 9 feet wide.
