The jersey Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant wore when he tore his Achilles in 2013 fetched $1.2 million at auction, according to Sportico’s Dylan Manfre.
“The signed 2013 Bryant jersey was photo-matched by memorabilia authentication company MeiGray and features the NBA logoman patch and a purple circle patch with the letters “JB” honoring late Lakers owner Jerry Buss, who died in February 2013,” Manfre wrote
The price is well below the highest ever for a Bryant jersey. One he wore during his 2007-08 MVP season went for more than $5.8 million.
Major Achilles injuries have become a little less disastrous than they once were, with the Phoenix Suns’ Kevin Durant and New York Liberty’s Breanna Stewart being two notable success stories.
But Bryant’s career was never the same after he went down in a 118-116 win over the Golden State Warriors on April 12, 2013.
The 18-time All-Star only logged 107 more appearances before retiring in 2016.
Any piece of memorabilia from that night carries added significance given what it meant in his NBA story.
