Oia in Santorini

Oia is a municipality of Santorini that covers the whole of Therasia Island and the northwestern part of Santorini. The town is famous for its white-painted houses succeeding over one another. The town has two traditional housing types: kapetanospitaand hyposkapha. The former are the two-story neo-classical houses dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The latter were the houses carved into the volcanic surface of the cliff and mostly used by crews. These stone or earth houses were long and narrow structures with vaulted roofs.
