Chennedy Carter has strong reaction to ESPN ranking her lower than Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, other WNBA stars

The 2024 WNBA season picks back up on Thursday after a month-long break for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

ESPN welcomed the W back with an updated top 25 player rankings list and not all parties agreed with the results.

Sky guard Chennedy Carter came in at No. 24 despite playing herself out of her role as a Sixth Player of the Year favorite to become an everyday starter. She expressed displeasure with her placement on Instagram, making her own case to be ranked higher.

Carter has been one of the WNBA’s breakout players this season. After going unsigned throughout the entire 2023 season, the 2020 Rookie of the Year runner-up has gotten back on track as one of the league’s most talented guards.

Carter felt her numbers were being overlooked by ESPN’s rankings.

Carter finished in 24th place in ESPN’s rankings. Some of the notable players ahead of her: Allisha Gray at 23, Angel Reese at 19, Brittney Griner at 16 and Caitlin Clark at 15.

“how I average less minutes and my stats top in the league ???but I am at the BOTTOM this isn’t adding up the hate be so obvious,” she wrote with a crying laughing emoji.

Carter added “F/G percentage as well,” continuing to state her case.

Carter has a point.

She is averaging 17.2 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.3 steals in 25.1 minutes per game while shooting an impressively efficient 51.8 percent from the field.

She ranks 12th in the league in points per game but averages the fewest minutes per game of any player higher than her on the list. Only A’ja Wilson, Dearica Hamby and Nneka Ogwumike are scoring at a more efficient rate among players in the top 12 on points per game.

And because the Clark comparison is inevitable due to her history with Carter: Clark is averaging 17.1 points on 40.5 percent shooting from the field. The Fever rookie is averaging more assists, rebounds and steals per game, though.

Being ranked as a top 25 player in the WNBA is still an honor but Carter will be out to prove her belief that she should be considered in the top tier of the league when the season picks back up on Thursday.
