A giant saltwater crocodile, more than 80 years old and missing a leg, known as Brutus, shocked wildlife enthusiasts on an Australian wilderness hike when it devoured a 3-metre-long bull shark.

The 5.5-metre-long Brutus stunned spectators in the Adelaide River area in Australia. The tourists had already seen Brutus leap out of the water to snatch a piece of buffalo meat from his guide. On the way back, they saw Brutus hunting a bull shark.

Andrew Paice, one of the tourists, recounted the experience saying: “The live bull shark, over 3 metres long, was firmly caught between Brutus’s sharp-toothed jaws. After a few moments, Brutus released his prey and began shaking it vigorously.”

Guide Morgan Bowman said: “This was the first time we saw a crocodile hunt a shark in this area. Although bull sharks are known to be quite agile and aggressive in the water, making them relatively safe to swim with, there are many over 3 metres long.”

According to zoologists, although Brutus feeds mainly on buffalo meat, he can also add some species of fish to his diet. Despite missing a leg, this crocodile is still a formidable predator.

Despite his fearsome reputation, Brutus has become something of a local celebrity, with many locals respecting and even admiring this giant reptile. Some even refer to him as the “king of the Adelaide River.”

However, authorities have warned that it is important to keep a safe distance from these creatures as they are dangerous and unpredictable. Swimming or boating too close to a saltwater crocodile can result in serious injury or even death.

As for Brutus, it seems that the lack of a leg hasn’t held him back too much. The crocodile continues to thrive in his environment, proving that he is a truly extraordinary and resilient animal. As long as humans continue to respect his power and keep a safe distance, Brutus will likely continue to reign over the Adelaide River for many years to come.
