The young hippo was playing alone when a small flock of oxpeckers landed on its back.
The anxious calf cried out for help when the oxpeckers began to peck at its back.
The hippopotamus ran and turned its body, but it didn’t work.
As you know, oxpeckers and hippopotamuses usually have a mutually beneficial relationship.
These amusing moments were captured in South Luangwa National Park in Zambia by photographer Marc Mol.
“At first, I was surprised by what was happening when I saw this baby hippopotamus running towards me and the safety of the water, and then I realized that the culprits were a small flock of oxpeckers.
I laughed a lot when I realized that I had captured something a little different and yet very funny,” he added.
When Marc shared photos of the baby hippopotamus on the internet, they went viral.
